4 Places to Charge Your Electric Car in Chicago

Chicago’s efforts to create a sustainable urban environment are evident throughout the city—Chi-town is chock full of city gardens, farmers markets and plenty of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations. If you’ve gone green, too, and have an electric car, charge up at these local stations—you’ll not only save money on gas, but you’ll help save the environment in the process.

1. Power up at Soldier Field. Whether you are taking a day trip to Chicago’s Shedd Aquarium or are in town for a Bears Game, you may find yourself parking at Soldier Field. The newly renovated Soldier Field campus has three electric vehicle charging stations in the North Parking Garage.

2. Charge up while you shop. A surprising number of Chicago grocery stores are set up to charge your car while you shop. Whole Foods has been adding EV charging stations to its neighborhood stores since 2010, with the Lakeview location most recently added to the list. Other locations with charging stations include the Gold Coast and Lincoln Park.

3. Fill your car while you fill a prescription. In addition to grocery stores, charging stations have been popping up across Chicago Walgreens pharmacy locations. At least 10 stores, including the Greektown Walgreens, are equipped with EV charging stations. Although they’re not mentioned individually on the Walgreen’s website, you can track down these (and other car charging ports) by visiting chargepoint.com and searching “Chicago.”

4. Plug in on Michigan Ave. While shopping the Magnificent Mile, you can charge your car at 900 North Michigan’s “Plug and Shop.” The location has installed ChargePoint charging stations inside the self-park garage.
